What is ITF-14 used for?
ITF-14 encodes a 14-digit GTIN and is the standard symbology for outer packaging: shipping cartons, case packs, and pallets. Because the bars are wide and tolerant, it survives printing directly onto corrugated cardboard, which is exactly where a retail UPC would smear and fail.
The digits usually carry a packaging indicator followed by the GTIN of the product inside, so a case of twelve units gets a different ITF-14 to a case of twenty-four. Supply 13 digits and this generator calculates the final check digit for you.

How to generate a ITF-14 barcode

Take the GTIN-14 for the trade unit: an indicator digit, your GTIN-13 without its check digit, then the recalculated check digit.

Print larger than a retail symbol — carton scanning happens at distance and on rough substrates.

Troubleshooting scan failures
Partial or short reads on cartons
This is exactly what bearer bars prevent. Add the frame around the symbol so a scanner cannot decode half the code.
Ink spread on corrugated closes the gaps
Increase the X-dimension towards 1.0 mm and ask your printer to apply bar width reduction on the plate.
Digit count rejected
ITF-14 is strictly 14 digits. If you have 13, you are holding the retail GTIN — prepend an indicator digit and recalculate.
Retail till will not accept it
ITF-14 is a case-level symbol. The consumer unit inside still needs its own UPC-A or EAN-13.
