When someone scans it we look up the current target and redirect, which means you can change where a printed code points at any time — fix a broken URL, swap a seasonal campaign, or repoint a menu — without reprinting anything.
That redirect layer is also what makes scan analytics possible: total scans, scans over time, and rough device and location breakdowns. Unlike several competitors, codes you have already generated stay live if you cancel; we do not hold printed material hostage.
