On packaging a QR code buys you space you do not have on the carton: full instructions, ingredient detail, provenance, warranty registration, recycling guidance, or a how-to video. It is also the cheapest post-purchase channel you own, because the customer already has the product in their hands.
Always download SVG for packaging artwork. Print runs use vector, and a rasterised code scaled up in a layout tool is the single most common cause of a whole batch that will not scan. Give the code a quiet zone of at least four module widths and never print it over a busy photograph.

Troubleshooting scan failures
Code fails on flexible film
Print larger and raise error correction. Film distorts in ways rigid card does not.
Metallic or dark substrate defeats the camera
Knock out a light panel behind the code. Contrast matters more than size.
Code sits too close to the retail barcode
Separate them clearly so the checkout scanner never catches the wrong symbol.
Landing page changed after the print run
Use a dynamic code so a packaging run of 50,000 units is not tied to one URL forever.
